You can easily restrict access to various services with the ESXi 5 firewall. This post will explain how to restrict access to the vSphere client, but can be applied to any of the other services listed (for example SSH).

Accessing the Security Profile

  • Click on the Host in vSphere Client
  • Select Configuration
  • Select Security Profile
  • Select properties across from the Firewall heading

Restricting Access to the vSphere Client

  • Scroll down and find the ‘vSphere Client’ entry
  • Select and click Firewall
  • Change to ‘Only allow connections from the following networks’
  • Enter the IP(s) or Network(s) you want to allow access
